A London councillor is to be investigated by the Labour Social gathering over a publish he shared on Fb which claimed Jews have been warned in regards to the 9/11 assaults.

Lambeth Council member Irfan Mohammad mentioned he “reposted a video with out recognising that it contained anti-Semitic content material” in 2015.

He has apologised “unreservedly”.

Lambeth Labour chief whip Jane Edbrooke mentioned the allegation of anti-Semitism could be taken “extraordinarily critically”.

The publish shared on the social networking website said: “Jews working within the World Commerce Centre obtained a textual content message earlier than the incident ‘Don’t come to work [on] September 11′”.

It was dropped at mild by the Marketing campaign Towards Anti-Semitism which described the publish as “completely appalling”.

‘No place for anti-Semitism’

In a letter posted on Twitter, Mr Mohammed, who can be a member of the Lambeth Inferfaith Discussion board, requested Ms Edbrooke to start disciplinary motion.

The letter learn: “I reposted a video with out recognising that it contained anti-Semitic content material.

“This was a silly factor and inconsiderate factor to do and I recognise that it was an anti-Semitic act.

“It’s completely unacceptable and it was my mistake which I don’t draw back from.

“I apologise unreservedly, I utterly settle for that I’ve damage the Jewish group via my motion.”

Ms Edbrooke mentioned: “We take any allegation of anti-Semitism extraordinarily critically and condemn anti-Semitism in all its types. There isn’t a place in our occasion for anti-Semitism.

“Councillor Irfan Mohammed has apologised and there can be an investigation.”

Mr Mohammed, who was not a councillor when he shared the publish, was elected in 2018.

He mentioned he could be writing to synagogues in Lambeth to personally apologise, and was “eager to pay attention and be taught from them.”
