A monkey from Belfast Zoo that was noticed “casually sauntering down the road” has died after being hit by a automobile on a motorway.
The male spider monkey escaped the zoo on Saturday night.
A video of the monkey at a bus cease was posted on social media.
The zoo is investigating how the monkey escaped.

A spokesperson for Belfast Metropolis Council instructed the Belfast Telegraph: “A monkey escaped from Belfast Zoo and was being tracked by keepers. Sadly it bought onto the motorway and was clipped by a automobile.
“It was injured and brought to be examined by the vet, however sadly died.”
The council stated employees on the zoo had been devastated by the loss.
The spokesman added: “That is the primary time this has occurred.
“It is a comparatively new monkey being launched. We’re nonetheless investigating how he escaped as there’s a moat across the island.”
Deborah Mccan, whose companion Darren took the video on his telephone, stated the couple had been unhappy to listen to of the monkey’s destiny.
She instructed the Belfast Telegraph: “It is so unhappy. I uploaded if for amusing, it’s not every single day you see a monkey on the highway. My companion felt terrible once we came upon he had died him.
“Darren and his brother contacted the Zoo instantly however there was reply so that they contacted the police to tell them.”
