Tory to sue BBCNI over Brexit programme (News)

Former Scottish Conservative Occasion Vice Chairman Richard Prepare dinner has instructed legal professionals following a BBCNI Highlight programme entitled Brexit, Darkish Cash And The DUP.

The Highlight programme examined Mr Prepare dinner’s position in a £435,000 donation acquired by the DUP throughout the Brexit referendum marketing campaign.

The money was used to pay for pro-Brexit newspaper promoting campaigning outdoors Northern Eire.

The BBC Highlight investigation, which was broadcast in June this 12 months, was introduced by Jim Fitzpatrick.

Mr Prepare dinner is the chairman of the Constitutional Analysis Council which made the donation to the DUP.

He’s a world adviser in waste administration and power.

In a press release issued yesterday, Mr Prepare dinner’s authorized adviser, Professor Peter Watson of Glasgow-based PWB Legislation, informed reporters: “The BBC documentary is defamatory.

“Counsel have been instructed and all who select to repeat the allegations can even be topic to proceedings.”

A BBC spokesperson mentioned final evening: “We stand by our journalism. We aren’t conscious of receiving any correspondence from Mr Prepare dinner’s legal professionals because the programme was broadcast.

“The programme was made in accordance with our editorial pointers.”

Highlight is BBC Northern Eire’s flagship present affairs programme.

Over its 40-year historical past, the programme has gained many broadcasting trade awards for its work, together with a 2017 Royal Tv Society award for its probe into controversial NI property loans linked with the Irish Nationwide Property Administration Company (Nama).
