A person who died after a “brutal and unprovoked assault” has been named.

Nigel Abbott, 65, suffered head accidents in what was thought to have been a random assault in Walmley, Sutton Coldfield, on Friday, police stated.

A 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of homicide, following the assault on Turchill Drive, has since been sectioned below the Psychological Well being Act.

Mr Abbott’s household stated he was “not violent in any form or kind” and “did not deserve this”.
